Imagine my surprise and, frankly, horror when I discovered, while going to work one recent morning, that my tree stump cairn had been surrounded by technology over night. Unknown technicans had installed lights on both sides of the tree, for reasons known only to themselves. A steel cable stretches just above my cairn. As of the date of writing, the cairn has, you’ll be pleased to hear, survived, despite ongoing tinkering on the spot. I don’t know if the technicians deliberately spared it or if they, like lumbering elephants, simply failed to notice the unobtrusive stones.
