I was delighted when I recently ran into one of my artist heroes, Robert Stumpf aka Rost, as he delivered prints to BoxOffBerlin. BOB is currently showing an exhibition of his ongoing “Berlin by Rost” series, which I have been following for years. Rost creates prints featuring views of Berlin inspired by, among other things, Japanese manga and Hiroshige’s One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. The level of Rost’s craftmanship is quite staggering, and Berlin residents will find his choice of street scenes endlessly fascinating. The BOB show runs until August 31 and is highly recommended. I also thoroughly approve of Herr Stumpf’s Velvet Underground-esque sunglasses.
